In Forex trading it is possible to make profit off of currencies that are depreciating in value too provided you enter them in the short position. A scalper will go short when the market is dropping.
The aim is to sell when the price is still not too low, wait for the price to fall and then buy.
For example, if a scalper sells USD/JPY, this means they sold USD and bought JPY. When they close their trade they will buy the sold USD back. Since the value has now fallen, in return they will have to pay less JPY than what they got paid. That difference is the profit.
