Dollar momentum fades
The US dollar moved within an inconclusive range on Thursday after struggling to build on gains recorded in the previous session. Although the currency briefly touched its highest levels in several days, the advance did not develop into a sustained move.
The price action leaves the dollar without a firm near-term direction. Its temporary push to multi-day peaks showed that earlier strength had not disappeared entirely, but the inability to extend that move also indicated limited follow-through.
Jackson Hole in focus
Jackson Hole remains a central point of attention for the foreign-exchange market. With the dollar already pausing after its latest gains, developments linked to the event could help determine whether the currency resumes its advance or remains confined to a range.
The lack of a decisive move is relevant across major dollar pairs. EURUSD and GBPUSD are sensitive to renewed dollar strength, while USDJPY could respond in the opposite direction if the US currency establishes clearer momentum. Thursday’s trading, however, offered no confirmed directional break.
US jobs remain another key catalyst
US employment developments are also in focus. Labor-market information can shape expectations around the US outlook and may provide the catalyst currently missing from dollar trading. Until that clarity arrives, short-lived moves may remain more prominent than sustained direction.
For forex traders, the main signal from Thursday’s session is hesitation rather than a reversal. The dollar retained part of the prior day’s positive tone and reached fresh multi-day levels, but it did not demonstrate enough momentum to establish a broader extension. Jackson Hole and US jobs are therefore likely to remain the principal reference points for the next clearer move in major USD pairs.
